A fisherman from Mumford in the Central Region has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl — a shocking case that has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stronger protection of minors.
The Cape Coast Circuit Court 2, presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo, handed down the sentence to 49-year-old Samuel Armah, a father of nine, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement contrary to Section 101(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Entie of the Ghana Police Service, the fisherman lured the young girl into a ghetto after accusing her of stealing GH₵60 and then sexually assaulted her. The victim later reported the ordeal, and medical examination confirmed the abuse, leading to Armah’s arrest and conviction.
Delivering judgment, Her Honour condemned the act as “shameful and inhumane,” stressing the importance of deterrent punishment in safeguarding minors. She reminded the public that society has a collective responsibility to protect children from such predatory behaviour.
