A tragic overnight raid in Darul Jamal, a village in Nigeria’s Borno State, has left more than 60 people dead after Boko Haram militants launched a violent assault. The attack, which targeted both civilians and soldiers near the Nigeria-Cameroon border, also claimed the lives of at least five soldiers. In response, the Nigerian Air Force carried out airstrikes that neutralized over 30 insurgents attempting to flee into nearby bushes.
The assault caused widespread destruction, with more than 20 houses and several buses set ablaze, alongside the killing of workers engaged in local reconstruction projects. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who visited the affected community, described the incident as heartbreaking and emphasized the urgent need for stronger security measures.
This devastating incident underscores the continued threat posed by Boko Haram and its rival ISWAP in the region. Despite years of military operations, insurgent groups remain active, fueling instability in an area that has already endured a prolonged 15-years conflict claiming thousands of lives and displacing millions.
