A shocking CCTV video from Asamankese in the Eastern Region shows a truck, suspected to have lost its brakes, speeding through town as people ran for their lives. The truck crashed into Dukes Fuel Station, wrecking a fuel pump before slamming into a nearby building. Many escaped unhurt, but one person was seen struggling on the ground after the crash.
Road accidents in Ghana are often caused by brake failures, speeding, and reckless driving. The Eastern Region remains one of the hardest-hit areas, especially with heavy trucks. According to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), 2024 saw 13,489 crashes in the region, leading to 15,607 injuries and 2,494 deaths — an increase from 2023’s figures.
